Business Awareness of Domain Names

In Summary

Most New Zealand businesses (87%) know what a domain name is; those businesses more likely to have this knowledge have been started in the last two years, are in the service industry or are focussed on international growth. It would seem that awareness of domain names is weaker with businesses who; have been in business for more than 10 years, are in the primary production industry or are sole traders in the South Island.

Eighty-seven percent of New Zealand businesses know what a domain is.

Those less likely to know what a domain name is are:

  • Those without a domain name (81%)
  • Is a sole trader in the South Island (79%)
  • Work in the primary production industry (77%)
  • Been operating 10+ years (83%).
 

Those more likely to know what a domain name is are: 

  • Those with a domain name (96%)
  • In the service industry (91%)
  • Focussed on growing internationally (100%)
  • Operating less than two years (97%).
